Nightfall by Lola Elvy

The sun melts
behind purple hills

The moon climbs
on a ladder of hidden stars

A quilt of snow cloaks
the forest floor

Snowdrops glisten
in the bushes

The day’s last loon cries
to her young

                    And then silence.

An owl hoots
The night awakens

.

  1. Lola — This is lovely…you’ve brought this alive in sight and sound so effectively that in reading it i found myself wrapped in the silence of that moment when winter’s day slips to night. “The moon climbs /on a ladder of hidden stars” …wonderful!!!! Thank you for sharing.

  2. The silence between day and night, when everyone changes shifts. :) Nicely done. Just lovely.

  3. I hear the silence. Beauiful. Peace…

  4. What a beautiful view of a day. Loved it.
